ABOUT SCENE 2
In february 2005 Malmklang, the culture house in Kirkenese and Samovarteaterets home, was completely damaged in a fire.
We lost nearly everything that we had meticulously built up for the last 15 years, both of technical and artistic value.
Samovarteateret then got the idea to reconstruct the old swimming pool in Kirkenes into a new theater: Scene 2.
This project was realized with funding from Sør-Varanger Kommune and a tremendous help from volunteers.
Scene 2 was authorized as a public stage and venue in February 2007.
The venue has: a stage, a stage rig, an amphitheatre with 147 seats, offices and a café.
Samovarteateret manages Scene 2, with the daily business of the theatre, as well as the tasks that come with the renting out of the space to external parties for conferences and performances.
The stage, the stage rig and the amphitheatre belong to Samovarteateret. The building is owned by Sør-Varanger Kommune.
Scene 2 makes it possible for Kirkenes to present performing arts to the people of Sør-Varanger.
